BLIND TEXTING, ARE YOU BEING A DICK?

The key to being successful at texting someone you have just met or don’t know is to start with a good approach. Some people push the limits of stupidity, don’t get it or don’t care.

For women, texting can be a daunting task of filtering out the “crazies.”  If things continue in this fashion, women will likely decide not use online dating apps at all.

This would be a devastating blow for anyone who finds it convenient to connect this way.

Luckily, there are a few tricks you can use to figure out if you're acting like a dick or not.

CHECK YOUR TEXTING HABITS

For men: a phone filled with endless “penis pics” is a tell-tale sign that you might just be in over your head.

Proud of your penis, big or small you send an abundance of unsolicited and unwanted nude images. Chances are you currently have at least 3 to 4 pictures of your prize possession on your phone. This is because you think you need to have them available at a moment’s notice.

Wrong, Wrong and Wrong. No one wants them! Delete them before someone finds them.

People (especially women) do not want to see images of body parts without a face attached. The person on the receiving end of the image does not know if the body part even belongs to you.  Most often, they will assume it doesn’t. There is no point to doing this. It just makes you appear creepy.

There is etiquette for sending nude images (I kid you not!).

  • Always wait until the person asks for this type of image and is ready to receive them.
  • Texting nude images without consent equals trouble. The person may not be alone or worse, have allowed someone else to use their phone.  Can you imagine how awkward that would be?
  • Make sure to show your face. At least until some level of comfort is established.
Who knew you were not supposed to send nude images to strangers?  What if it’s my thing?

If you must send nude images, (because you have some sort of kink or fetish) then be responsible. Use an adult chat app like Arousr.com. The chat hosts on this and similar adult chat apps are open to receiving and sharing nude images. The apps delete the images off the server to ensure discretion for both parties involved.

F.Y.I. Applications like Snapchat and Tinder are text messenger applications. They were not designed for sexting purposes. They are family friendly and it is just wrong.

2. Every text conversation you have with a stranger begins with "Send me a pic!"

You lost at not saying, “Hello!”

Apparently, introducing yourself is something you no longer think is appropriate.

Take a quick peek at the conversations that you have had recently. If they consist of requesting sex or sending a nude picture before saying hello, “You, are most certainly being a dick!”

3. You don’t want to know anything about the person you are texting. Other than perhaps their weight or breast size.

A "dick," won't know or ask much about the person he or she is texting. Self-centered, they don't care who is on the receiving end of the text. They just want to satisfy their own needs and be on to the next available person. It is not sexy, but then a dick never is.

A good way to test this theory out is by reviewing the information on each partner you are currently communicating with. If you cannot answer basic information about them, you have completely failed at this.

Most people want to get the know the person they are with before engaging in sexual relations with them. This does not change because you are hiding behind a phone screen.

ESTABLISHING NEW TEXTING HABITS

So you haven't been the sharpest pencil in the box, but you are capable of changing your ways. Where do you begin? With common sense.
Dating online and via text is exactly the same as dating face to face. If you wouldn’t do or say it in public, then you shouldn’t do it.
While I do not want to be a dick, let me express the importance of the following just in case you didn't get it:
  1. Don’t fill your phone with endless nude images of yourself or anyone else.
  2. Always be polite when texting someone new. Get to know someone before expecting anything.
  3. Know your surroundings and the surroundings of the person you are texting.
  4. Do not assume you are alone. Turn your phone to silent!!
  5. Try to seem like you care more about the person than having sex with them.
  6. Don’t be self-centered, it is ugly.
  7. When in doubt.  Don’t push send!
  8. Pretend you are on a blind date and the person is right in front of you.  Act as you would in a public place.
If you don't want to be a dick, don't be a dick!  It's not rocket science, it's just mobile dating.
